I have a monkey puzzle tree for sale. It is 7 years old and pot grown and about 3ft tall. It is very healthy and gets new shoots every year but it is too big for the pot and we have nowhere to plant it out. It was bought at a garden show in 2003. Monkey Puzzle trees have a tap root going straight down. I believe this makes them very difficult if not impossible to move once they are established.
They can be grown in a pot but use the deepest pot you can find and don't expect them to grow quickly.
This probably explains why they cost a fortune if you want to buy a good sized pot grown one. I saw a 10 foot one recently on sale for ã1200.
They do seem to be very hardy and trouble free, I have had on in a pot for 15 years. It was very pot bound when I re-potted it this year so it may grow a bit more now it has some room. The small pot seems to have a bonsai effect on it which suits me as I dont have room for a huge tree.

Those are the coolest trees but I understand they live mainly in a climate like coastal Washington or Oregon. Better do some research if you don't share that type of climate.
