Message envoyé par eleagnus 5/6 (My Page) le 17/03/07 - 21:33
Bonjour,
Unfortunately, I only speak English and Spanish right now. I live in the United States, but I am planning to visit Paris in May.
Are there any suggestions for gardens to visit nearby while I am in France?
I appreciate your time.
Merci,
Olivia |

| Hi Olivia/Eleagnus Some suggestions : "Le jardin alpin" from "Le jardin des plantes" , metro Jussieu. "Le parc floral de la ville de Paris", metro Vincennes "les serres d'Auteuil" and " le jardin de Bagatelle" if you like roses, metro Porte d'Auteuil. One hour from Paris west : Giverny, Monet's garden south ; "le grand Courtoiseau" (45 Triguères), and Andre Eve's garden (45 Pithiviers) for roses. and closer to Paris for roses, "La roseraie de la Haye", (La Haye les roses, 94)" Regards Jane |

| Dear Jane, Eugenie, and Marie-xistine, Thank you ever so much for taking the time to reply to my post. I truly appreciate your suggestions and I hope to be able to visit as many of the gardens that you have listed. I didn't realize how close Monet's garden is to Paris. My first experience in seeing one of his paintings was a few years ago when I went to the Toledo, Ohio exhibit for Van Gogh that visited with some of his paintings from around the world. The Monet I saw is one of the waterlily paintings and it is so vibrant and beautiful. His work is pictured on so many things, but to see one of his paintings in person is just too wonderful for words. Roses have been one of my passions and I love the oldest ones the most. I believe there is a rose named 'Roserie de la Haye'? I think that Audrey Hepburn hosted a special television mini-series about roses that were also located in France? I can't remember exactly. Unfortunately, my climate is too severe to grow the lovely Noisettes that owe their existence to France. I never thought I would have the opportunity to travel to France and see the fabulous gardens. I look forward to visiting. Also, thank you so much for suggesting what time I should visit. I am glad that you have advised me. You all are most helpful to me and I take your advice to heart. When I return to the U.S., I hope to post the photographs I will take while visiting the gardens, as well as other activities, in my member page. Again, thank you so much and I send the kindest regards to you all! If you have any further suggestions, I look forward to hearing them. Merci, Olivia |

Olivia, Giverny is 80 km west of the center of Paris. You can go there either by car (a little bit more than 1h is necessary, depending upon the traffic) or by train from Gare St Lazare to Vernon (less than 1h if you catch a direct train). Giverny is 7 km away from Vernou, so you’ll need either a taxi, bus, bike or a good walking distance to continue your trip: Giverny. If you are a fan of Monet, you should visit the "musée de l’Orangerie" dedicated to his famous paintings : the nympheas of Giverny: Musée de l’Orangerie . "Le grand Courtoiseau" and Andre Eve’s garden are a bit further. (135/100 km south of Paris) "La Roseraie de la Haye" is only 8 km south from Paris. You can access to it either by RER (station Bourg La Reine) or by bus from Paris. Don’t forget to check the opening hours for all of theses gardens. Some of them open only on WE. Eugénie, I dont know Anne Marie’s garden. Could you tell us more ? Kind regards, Jane |
