moving to Venice?

I will be moving from Southern California to Venice soon and the weather being so radically different I would love advice on where I can buy plants in Venice and what to grow. I have been growing fragrants such as jasmines and roses. I wonder if there is any chance I continue growing these in Venice or am I being too optimistic? Can one also buy mail order plants in Italy? Please suggest sources.

RE: moving to Venice?

You are moving to Venice? You lucky lucky gal. I don't think the weather is so different in Venice -- it's a coastal city, so there aren't huge extremes of temperature. They do have a winter, but it's more like a San Francisco winter.

You can grow whatever you want there. People's gardens are full of roses, jasmine, (I believe some palms), artichokes, citrus in pots, etc. You've probably been to Italy before! From my experience, I'd say Italians are some of the gardeningest people on Earth. Have fun.
