I went to the Padua botanical garden, said to be the oldest in Europe. (I wonder if it is not the oldest in the world; I'm not sure that any other culture had the concept of a botanical garden.)
I was charmed to see the references to Goethe, who had written about the garden and the ancient (and still living) palm there.
I'd still be very interested in your suggestions -- maybe for the next trip!
