Citrus & Almond problems

Posted by johnash (My Page) on

We live in SE Spain (Murcia), not far from the coast. We do not do well with citrus and just now, as lemon or orange fruits form, they get eaten by something. Something (probably the same something) also nibbles the tender ends of twigs as they grow. I'd welcome any ideas, please.

Secondly, at this time of year, our almond trees drip a sticky substance, the leaves are glossy and appear to have whitefly or similar. Does this cause long term damage, please?

Many thanks for any help given.

John

RE: Citrus & Almond problems

i know the problem and perhaps the cure. i started a garden not far from you in albatera from scratch without any knowledge about bugs and certain degree plants. it has been a long learning curve under, as you probably aware severe conditions here.
anyhow on the subject you have to start keeping a close eve from early spring. i try my best to use natural remedies. you can try sparayng with washing up liquid( a few drop to a ltr water) or a jet spray to get rid of the white green and black fly population(which is what you got). there is another natural oil called neem. if you can get it a few drops in a ltr of water in a spray bottle might work. also you can boil garlic let it cool and use the water to spray. there is so many other things you can do before using harsh chemicals.
good luck.
