recently moved to northern spain. i planted a lot of geraniums, petunias and pansies, as well as morning glories and nastartiums in our small balcony. unfortunately we are almost facing the ocean and get lot of strong winds at times.
any suggestions how i can protect what i have already planted and what can i add that it will be hardy enough to withstand the wind? thanks in advance for your time.

If you plant some Cupressus arizonica or Cupressus sempervirens from the direction the winds blow, then you'll have the best protection.

The first species grows more rapidly than the second, but the second is more steady when rain is accompanied by winds.

If you decide to plant them, take care to leave some space between the trees when they grow above 4 meters so as to let some wind pass through them.If you create a compact plant wall, the winds will pass over them and get into your garden with the same speed. You want to infiltrate the winds, not to obstacle them from entering your garden.

I'm gonna post tomorrow about wind hardy trees.
