Clematis on the beach!

Spedito da rita_f z9 italy (My Page) il

I have a small garden in South Italy just in front of the beach. There is the beach, then an oleander edge, a Pittosphorum edge and then my garden.

I'd like to grow some Clematis,
but I am afraid of salt winds
Which one is better ?
Thank you
Rita

I don´t know about the salty winds, but in my zone clematis has a hard time. It tries to grow and even flowers a bit in the Spring, but then the Summer heat fries them. They never get as impressive as the ones I see in England or Scotland, for example. So I´m not sure this is a good choice for your site. I grow Nellie Moser, Mrs. Cholmondeley and Multi Blue. This year I have also planted a clematis montana Tetrarosa as an experiment.

clematis flammula is a native. not spectacular but I find it very elegant with its small vhite flowers.
resists drought and doesn´t grow too rampant

Thank you Eduarda and Francisco !

I knew it was not easy, but I want to try.
So I'll start with C. flammula, but I need some more in blue or violet.
Thanks again Rita

you can mix clematis flammula with plumbago capensis in light blue.
they are both in bloom here now ( northeastern spain)

You might also try C. rehderiana; it's common in Turkey and grows in areas not far from the sea.
