Cantabria

We live on the N coast of Spain, in Cantabria. Does this count as 'Mediterranean'. We seldom have frosts and summer temperatures average in the mid 30's. We have 800 m2 of a mountainside, iron-rich soils and we are south-facing. Hibiscus, bougainvillaea, peaches and grapes all grow well, as do almost all the usual herbs and some Japanese ones too.We have boars but the biggest problem so far gas been the red and roe deer, which have destroyed one or two trees such as almonds.

Any help appreciated and we shall reciprocate if we can.

Hi there, Is there a fence round your plot? Perhaps you can plant a hedge. I recently came across a site on the net that mentioned there are some 'deer resistent' plants but I don't remember where I saw it. I would suggest you google 'deer resistent plants or hedges and you might be able to find it. Sorry I can't be of more help!
