El Retiro Botanical Gardens re-open

The newly re-opened (in Sep 2005 after being closed to the public for 5 years), 'El Retiro's' magnificent botanical and ornithological Gardens are well worth a visit by anybody finding themselves close to Malaga in Spain, and interested in Mediterranean Gardens.
A privately owned estate dating back to 17th Century with over 800 specimen plants, set in lush subtropical and historical Gardens. Highly recommended.

RE: El Retiro Botanical Gardens re-open

Sherill, I saw the article about the reopening in Sur and was planning to leave off going until the Spring due to the price of a ticket. On learning there is an annual ticket I will be going next week!!! I visited the gardens a few times before they closed and in fact it was due to a cutting of a Passiflora I collected (they were pruning at the time and I asked for it, put it in my handbag, forgot it a few days then planted it) that I now have about 60 varieties of Passiflora! Personally I much prefer El Retiro to La Concepcion (perhaps because you don't have to be accompanied by a guide and can choose your own pace). I love the sound of the water in the classical garden where the channels on either side are 'stepped' at different levels so you get different sounds as the water drops. An annual ticket will definitely be worth it for me.
