Jacaranda Root Problems

Hi - We own a property in the Algarve. In our main driveway (paved) there are two Jacaranda trees which are now approximately 15 Feet tall. The roots have started to lift the block paving quite badly. Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the offending roots without causing lasting damage to the trees. We would not wish to lose these trees which I believe were planted about 12 years ago.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks.
