Pruning of new bushes
| | |

| I have just planted fifty new rose bushes and climbers. They all have long shoots. I want to know how many buds they should be pruned to.

| Hi Moray, The answer depends on what type of roses you have planted. Climbers should in the first few seasons mainly just have the dead wood snipped off. If your bush roses are hybrid teas, then it depends upon how tall they are. Generally, hybrid teas and floribundas are pruned to anywhere between 1.5 - 3 feet, depending on their age. If you have planted English Roses or shrub roses, just let them grow for a few years pruning out any dead wood. Cheers, Mike |

| It also depends what you are going to do with them. If you intend to try exhibiting, and I strongly suggest theat you do, contact me and I'll give you all the help I can. |
