Hello there
I plan to plant some roses in a somewhat shady garden with sunny spots next fall (in Switzerland, bordering to Germany). Now about the choosing: I had thought to go for the new ground covering roses with rambler s parantage. BUT I had problems with stem borers (Ardis brunniventris or Blennocampa elongatula?) on climbing roses. Last season I had pruned two plants hard, expecting loveley new shoots. Turned out those got crippled and grew much less. There where tiny holes right above a bud, sometimes with droppings, and the stem hollowed/ the core eaten and the buds above it not thriving any longer.
So, this is likely to happen again. Do you have experience whether species Roses like R. gallica or R. centifolia are less likely to get attacked? Thanks for hints and information, cheers, Lin |
