to prune or not to prune(thats the rambling question)

hi, i have a one year old rambling rector , it is just finishing his glourious bloom period, (the flowers, thousands of them ,lasted all may).So what i do now? I readed somewhere that I sould prune the lateral flowering shoots right after flowering by 2 thirds, but if i do that i will not have the decorative hips supposed. can i wait to the hips, and prune then, or not to prune at all,? what about the long no flowering shoots, must i tie in order to flower next year? should i prune some entires cane to the base in order to renovate or wait a year?.
Thank you in advance.

RE: to prune or not to prune(thats the rambling question)

If you prune you will of course not get the hips. But why prune if its only 1 year year old? Focus on training the long shoots in the direction you want them to grow. That goes for both the laterals and the long basal canes that will flower next year (and their laterals the year after that). Focus on shaping the future plant ... later you can begin to prune if you want to limit the size of the rambler.
