pruning climbers

hi,

My two year old Angel face climber has been putting on lateral over five feet long, without any flowers. I've been patient with it tieing its long canes in place for the last six to nine months.

Yesterday, i gave it a heavy prune to stimulate flowers by cutting the laterals up to six inches. And also gave it some blood and bone to keep up the phosphorus levels up.

I know its a bit late to ask this question. but do you think i did the correct thing?

RE: pruning climbers

hello karima,
most of the climbers/ ramblers flower on older wood of the last season. So if the shoots were grown this summer they would produce flower spikes/ short spurs in summer 2009.

good luck
cheers linaria
