Calling all UK rose breeders and collectors!

Posted by JinksUK (My Page) on

Hello

I’m trying to establish a pollen exchange, allowing amateur breeders to access as wide a variety of plants for crossing as is possible. Like most amateurs I have limited space and can’t grow as wide a selection of roses for use in breeding work as I would like. A network with other breeders and collectors would go a long way to solving this problem and should be fairly economical.

My interested is in working with species roses chinas and Gallica’s and I would particularly like to contact people growing these roses or working in this area. That said I would be happy to see anyone come onboard whit this idea as I think we have a lot to gain from exchanging material and ideas with one another.

Anyone interested in getting involved please contact me at a_rose_man@yahoo.co.uk

Hello Jinks,
I'm very surprise to note that it's possible to keep pollen and send it with safe (secure protection). How many time could you receive this pollen if I send you some of my roses ?
Bye.
N@dine.

(excuse my bad english).

Hi N@dine

Pollen will keep well in old film canisters for a few days provided that it's dry when the canister is seeled; and If you store the canisters in the refridgerator you can keep it for a few weeks.

The canisters can be sent safely by regular 1st class post within the UK and there is no restriction on when or how often you can mail film canisters containing pollen within the growing season.

Hope that covers the question.

Take care
