paris rose gardens

My wife and I are planning a visit to Paris in the next couple of weeks to see the rose gardens. Right now we plan to arrive on June 17th.

Does anyone have any advice? Is this a good time to go, because we could go a week earlier if this would be a better time for the peak bloom of antique roses.

Thanks in advance,

Stuart

Stuart,

I don't know when is the best period for the peek bloom. All I can say is that in my garden near Geneva where the winters are a bit colder then in Paris (but it has been a very mild winter this year), I've got :
- Mme Isaac Pereire, in full bloom for allready a week
- Yolande d'Aragon, starting
- Boule de neige, starting
- Reine des violettes, starting
- Zéphyrine Drouhin, in bloom for 2-3 days
- Blush Noisette, not yet in bloom

The other ones are to young to say. If I where you I would call a rose garden in Paris to be sure. Such a long way and not beeing there for the peak bloom would be very disappointing !

Have a nice time !

Thanks for your help! The hard part is guessing when the peak bloom will be. I will try to call the gardens, but my French is pretty awful.

Stuart, if they don't speak english, what
I guess they may do, ask :
"Pourriez-vous me dire quelle est la meilleure période pour voir les roses anciennes en pleine floraison ?"

Of course, you'll have to understand the answer...

If you think that you will not understand it, let me know, I'll phone for you and will give you the answer.

Stuart,

Generally the peak bloom is around 5-6 of june, but this year, it seems to be a bit later for climbers.
I will take a look tomorrow and let you know.

Bye

Stuart,

It really depends on what you are interested in.
The peak bloom for centifolias & Gallicas begins now.
For Ramblers & Climbers Wichruraiana, wait for 1 more week.
