Point de Rose

Could someone please help me? I was searching a book of phrases for expressions about roses and thorns and came across these two:

"Il n'y a point de roses sans épines"

"Point de rose sans épines"

My somewhat limited French does fine by me except for the meaning of "point" in these two phrases (although I question also the grammatical correctness of "de roses" in the first). I would appreciate a translation.

RE: Point de Rose

There is no roses without thorns
no roses without thorns

(figurate meaning of course...)

 o
Point de Rose - pas de rose

"point" is the old word for "pas"
