Suggestions for sandy soil

| I have recently moved to a garden with deep sandy loam, the organic matter runs out after 18 inches and it's pure sand. I garden entirely organically, and have been finding that some roses are struggling and developing poorly (e.g. "Comte de Chambord"). My most vigorous growers so far have been "Cornelia" and "White Pet", and "Variegata di Bologna" has done well too. As you can see, I prefer the bushy, graceful habit of the older roses! Can anyone recommend a deep reddish-purple, repeat-flowering, disease-resistant rose which has done well in similar conditions; also any short-growing, repeat-flowering climbers? |
