climbers in containers

Anyone have ever tried to grow a climber rose in a container? I am going todo it ( although I know its going to be difficult ). I have a mme Alfred Carriere standing in a 50cm of diameter terracota pot. Do you have any advice/reccomendation? I have a Heritage rose ( english rose ) and a Buccaneer grandiflora on 40cm pots.

Thanks!!
Ines

RE: climbers in containers

Shouldn't be any problem, Ines. Try to use a soil-based compost rather than a peat based one which dries out very quickly. Water and water and water! And about every two weeks in the summer feed with a liquid tomato fertiliser that is high in potash.

Mme Alfred is usually allowed to grow to its full size with little pruning, but she can be pruned tightly to keep her to a lesser size.

Best wishes
Jon
