Please help identify this spring flower.

Hello, I hope someone here can help me identify this spring flower. This plant was flowering all over in the forests in Finland when I was there in May. I was told this is one of the first to bloom after the long winter. Thank you for your help. Kin

RE: Please help identify this spring flower.

Hello!
I visited Garden Web for the first time today and the first thing I saw was your question (had to register to be able to answer of course); which I have the answer to, because it is a very common springflower here in Sweden too.

It is called "vitsippa" in swedish and in latin Anemone nemorosa. Mostly a woodland flower but I also have it in my garden in the city. They can be pinkish too and some even blue (but I think the blue are cultivated). In my garden I have yellow ones, called "gulsippa" or Anemone ranunculoides.

Hope you are satisfied with my answer. Merry Christmas!

RE: Please help identify this spring flower.

This Flower is valkovuokko (anemone nemorosa) in Finland and the blue one is named sinivuokko (hebatica nobilis) and there`s a yellow one too and that`s keltavuokko (Anemone Ranunculoides). Those plants are public plants in every wood here in Finland. my e-mail is: maikku.v@luukku.com
