Bourgainvillea

I bought a two foot tall specimen four months ago. It is kept in a conservatory that only has heating for a few hours a day. It is still flowering quite a lot. Is this usual?

RE: Bourgainvillea

It's quite usual for it to flower at this time of the year, although they do need to rest at some time. It is better to rest your plant in the winter, but if it's still going strong, keep watering and feeding it to keep it going, and then give it a good rest next winter. I'm not sure that a conservatory that only has heating for a few hours a day is quite the right enviornment for a Bougainvillea in the long term. It is at night that the heat is important, to keep them frost-free at the most, or optimally no less than 5ºC. Most conservatories are, alas, a good environment for people but not necessarily healthy for plants in the long term.
