Help with my Bonzai

Hello to you all! I am quite new at this so I need all the help I can get. I have been having problems with my bonzai and I am desperate. It's a ligustrum tree (according to the label it came with) and it's been losing its leaves. I repotted it about a month ago or so and everything was going alright. However, during the past week it's started to lose its leaves. It looks alright and all, I mean the leaves aren't yellowish or anything and they look absolutely healthy despite the fact that they have fallen off. Do you have any idea why this is happening? The tree is placed indoors in a well lit place. I have been watering it regularly, spraying its leaves and using a rich in iron fertilizer but there seems to be no improvement. Could you please help me? Thank you very much! Aleka

Ligustrum is privet, commonly used for hedging in the UK. Your problem is probably that you are growing it indoors, they are totally hardy garden plants. A lot of trouble with bonzai is that they are meant to be grown outside, they are not houseplants. It's also not a good idea to fertilize sick plants unless you know the problem is a deficiency.

The thing is that it doesn't look ill or anything. The fallen leaves look alright all green and everything, that's why I have been trying to fertilize it just in case it needed a bit of help. Isn't it too late to move it outdoors now? I live in Greece and the weather is pretty nasty at the moment. I would not want to shock the plant with such an enormous temperature change. My apartment is boiling hot as the heating is on around the clock. Is it possible that it is going to sleep for winter? And if so,should I prune it? Thanks for all your help! Regards, Aleka

I suspect it isn't liking the "boiling" hot and relatively dry indoor air. Or maybe it isn't getting enough light. Natural light indoors in winter in England is virtually useless to a plant like this, and privets do drop leaves in deep shade. I've never grown a privet hedge indoors so I'm only guessing :)

But I have had it for approximately 8 months now. It survived the boiling hot Greek summer and most part of the boiling indoor climate of my apartment during winter. It just seems sto strange that it has started losing its leaves so suddenly. What is more, I think it's too hot in here for it to be hybernating. The only positive thing is that there is evidence of new growth and the leaves remain green -not a yellow spot in sight. I just hope that it isn't dying or anything. Thank you for all your help and advice. Aleka
