christine's garden

blimey, I have already despaired of GW but this latest effort takes the biscuit. Is it just me or does anyone else find the tedious wittering and frankly deadly old photo albums, dull neighbours and tonight, another decrepit 'lecturer' with a desperately dull garden. As a northerner myself, I am heartily sick of this cod 'salt of the earth' stereotype of ee by gum buffoons but worse than the continual pushing of fatuous 'characters' is the almost total lack of anything interesting, useful, inspiring - unless you get your kicks watching reg bumble about whilst Christine shrieks reeeeeally super! God, I am generally stubbornly persistent with gardening programmes, such is the dearth of decent TV (especially during this endelessly dreary January, but I simple could not bear to watch another minute - even Groundforce may have been preferable.
It all seemed to start off OK but ran out of steam after the first 20 minutes....a whole series!!! Sorry to rant but this was just tragic.

I agree with you entirely. I watched the first episode and just couldn't believe it! I have been unable to stomach another dose of it.

I thought the first programme was quite sweet - she was so enthusiastic. However by the second I was getting bored, it felt repetitive, and I missed the third, which is perhaps just as well! I thought it would have been fine as a one-off programme, but I would agree it isn't material for a whole series.

I totally agree. Maybe one programme, but a series - no way. It was so boring on Friday that I fell asleep after five minutes. Unfortunately I woke up after 9 pm and therefore missed the Alan Titchmarsh programme that I had turned on to see!

I agree wholeheartedly. The woman is annoying with her screeching.

I would love to see a series about either the NCCPG or National Collection Holders - just think of the feast of flowers we'd get from that!

Can't stand Titchy.

Couldn't agree more! I like garden programes to be educational. I want the 'how' the 'when' the 'why'of gardening and always inform of the botanical names of plants mentioned not how happy she is to see someone again after so many years!

Now this is strange because while I find programs such as Gardens World dire these days with monty ban the strawberry farms Don and that mousey ginger haired woman I actually found Christines Garden a refreshing change. It was something of a fly on the wall series with just enough to fill it out enough for its half hour showing. I found when she was talking about things she was doing there was an eliment of Geoff Hamilton about her.

I had the pleasure to be taught by christine walkden on a horticultural course at writtle college, her knowledge of horticulture is massive. She behaved the same way on the course as she did on tv(like a mad hatter lol) and i believe that was because of her passion for horticulture and christine made me feel at ease by being just herself. i just thought i would show the other side of the coin to people who only she her on tv.

...been watching Christine's Garden repeats on Sky these past few days, have seen them all before but she always makes me smile with her 'eccentric' ways. Can't stand Monty Don's approach personally. Give me Titchy back!. Last night she was chomping away at Reg's precious tomatoes while he was away! She seems the sort of person who would help anyone out, gardening or otherwise. Bumbling Reg is the kind of chap I would like as an honourary grandad, a real old dear! It's not supposed to be the kind of gardening prog that gives you loads of hard facts and figures about how and when and why etc, it's just a lighthearted look at gardening folk in general. She has a vast knowlege for sure. Just my thoughts anyway, it wouldn't do for us all to be the same would it?
Gill.
