I had just filled the washing machine last night and closed the door when it seemed to produce the vibrations it normally makes during the spin cycle. How odd, I thought, I've only just switched it on. Then it crossed my mind that it was actually the earth that had moved, not the machine. It was just before the 1 am news.

Yep, most definately felt it here in the Staffs Moorlands area. Bed shook, heard low grumbling noise then all the wardrobe doors rattled like crazy, roof timbers creaked and groaned, the whole house threw a wobbly, very scary. Elder daughter in Derby also felt it . Not yet spoke to our other daughter or son (Newcastle Staffs and Portsmouth), but will reply later tonight.

Was felt in Newcastle Staffs but not in Portsmouth, well not that son and his fiance felt it or heard any reports of it there, although one news did say it had been reported on the Isle of Wight.

I heard that some people felt it in London, even further south than that, but I was awake at the time and didn't feel a thing. There was an extremely noisy police helicopter flying somewhere overhead around that time, and if I felt any vibration at all I probably assumed it was that.
