What's my houseplant?

I have a mature house plant that I found by the side of the road and I want to know what it is.

It has large, dark green, waxy leaves, with 7 long fingers, and an inch thick woody stem with almost bamboo like joins. Above each join a stalk shoots out about a foot or more sideways and ends in the leaves each on a slight stalk, splayed from a central point.

It currently stands about 5 feet tall but has been hacked down a bit! It seems to be doing very well with very little direct sunlight and water every few weeks.

Any ideas?

Check out Schefflera. Otherwise, can you post a photo?

Could it be Fatsia Japonica? Can also be grown outdoors.
