Compost

Can anyone tell me why some books recommend 'sterilized' compost. How can it be sterilized? Or does this just mean disease and pest free?
Thank you |

| Apparently you can bake it in the oven to sterilise it. |

| Don't bake it. From what I've heard the stink is terrible. |

The best way i find is to steam sterilise using a wallpaper stripper and a couple of metal biscuit tins. The top tin has lots of holes punched in the bottom and a few in the lid. The bottom tin has a large hole punched in the side for the steamer hose. Don`t touch the tins while its running..they get pretty hot :) |
