Hello,
I'm new here and also new to gardening. I want to grow organic jalapino peppers and don't know where to start. Can they be grown in the U.K.? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They will not survive frost and are probably best grown under glass even during the summer. You might be able to raise it as a windowsill crop. You would need to sow seeds in a protected warm place about now, or if you only need a few plants, I'd recommend buying some in from a garden centre in early May - less complicated for a novice. However, they wouldn't be organic from source then.

I'm by no means an expert. There's probably someone on here who is, though!

You can buy Jalapeño pepper seeds from various seed companies - e.g.:

(or just Google chilli seeds uk)

Last year I grew cayenne peppers from seed and they were amazingly easy to germinate and grow. I neglected them, didn't pot them on in time and didn't give them much in the way of a warm, sunny position for the first few months of their life (and having such a damp squib of a summer didn't help either), but they still rewarded me with a crop. I'll be growing more chillis this year (I have some seedlings doing nicely with good light indoors) and will give them a sheltered, sunny position outdoors on a south-facing windowledge. So you can definitely grow them in the UK, and you can do so outdoors provided you give them a sheltered, sunny position. (And don't put them out too early.)

There are loads of websites devoted to chillis and chilli products in the UK - with lots of cultural information on growing them. Just do a web-search.

Hi
They are dead easy to grow from seed.
Get some good quality compost, plant the seeds and put somewhere warm (top of the fridge works)
When they appear put them in a south facing windowsill but not too much direct sunshine when they`re small. When they get bigger you can put them outside in the sunshine for a few hours.
The most important thing is not to overwater them..let them dry out between waterings.

Mine are sitting in the kitchen window and have fruit already. Admittedly, i did cheat a bit by planting seeds in mid february and then under a florescent light.

Plant some seeds..you`ve nothing to lose :)
