How to sow my seed...

Hi, new to the site and have got new build house with small garden out the back. Being a new-build, it resembled the Somme but have removed all the rumble, riddled all the stones, mixed in compost and have lovely soil to seed. I have bought the grass seed I want to use but I want a handheld spreader to evenly spread it. The trolley types are bit big as the garden is only 20m2 but can't seem to find a cheap handheld spreader (or from a site that doesnt charge ridiculous delivery.) Any recommendations?

TIA,
Gav

You can do that area by hand, just throw it out like you were feeding chickens. There is usually a picture on the seed package showing more or less how thick the seed should look on the ground, that's easier than trying to weigh it and measure out.

Just make sure your preparation is done well because you won't get another chance. Don't add too much compost because it tends to sink. Make sure the ground is filled evenly to the depth you have disturbed so that it won't turn into a mountain range, and make sure the top few inches are packed down hard enough to walk on without sinking in. Loosen up just the very top layer with a rake to help the seed.

Its just a little chilly right now for germinating grass seed so it may take a week or two instead of a few days, but then it should grow really well without you having to water it every day!
