bamboo

About 9 years ago a 'kind' friend gave me a piece of rooted bamboo for my garden. I was an absolute novice and didn't realise that most bamboos love to run riot. It grew too large and was cutting out the evening sun so we lopped off the branches almost to the ground. Unfortunately, this has sent runners(?) out across half the garden and we've now got small bamboo bushes everywhere. I've tried digging some up but the runners are huge and you have to saw through them. Please does anyone know of a way of killing this beast. I've only got a small garden (17'x17') which has a lot of jungly plants and pebbles. All the bits that I use to grow flowers is getting less and less because of this monster.

I put some thick plastic 'edging' around my bamboos, which seems to help. Some say planting them in a large dustbin also restricts the growth. Not sure how to kill them unless glyposphate would do it?

Yep, I now know what I should have done. I just wish I had asked for some advice earlier!!

Oh dear. I've planted black bamboo not too far from the pond. Should I dig it up and replant it in some container? I wouldn't want runners piercing the liner.

Concerning the black bamboo. I would dig it up and contain it by enveloping it in something like a plastic tub and bury it in the ground this will curtail roots from becoming invasive.

Thank you! So far it's not growing much at all anyway...
