Specimen plant by the seaside

| Hello,
I live on the coast in West Cork, Ireland, and want to plant a specimen plant in the middle of my lawn. Winds are often very strong and have caused several attempts to fail (bamboo, palm to name just 2). I was thinking of a Eucalyptus. Could anyone offer any advice.

| I don't know if poplars would grow there but many of us are jealous that you live on the coast God give coast homes to all who wish them and God bless you |

| What about a strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo)? Evergreen, lovely shiny red brown bark, tolerates salt winds, white flowers, reddish fruit, grows in an interesting habit a bit like a large bonzai and native in SW Ireland. |
