Sunny, polluted balcony

I live in Central London on a busy road. My balcony is south facing. Anyone have any suggestions for pollution loving plants? I would love fast growing creepers to cover the iron railings. Also, would it be a good idea to grow herbs here?

"Also, would it be a good idea to grow herbs here?" Not for human consumption, if it is a polluted site! OK for decorative use, though. Resin

If you're planting into tubs and pots - there's Agapanthus, particularly the dwarf varieties, some of the grasses such as Carex spp (unless pollen is a problem for you), Aloysia and lavender just for sniffing ;), pelargoniums/geraniums, and, in the shadier portions - Chlorophytum - spider plant, which has a reputation as an air cleaner in polluted places. Sempervivums, so long as they are not ruthlessly baked, could also be a low care option, and some of the Sedums. You could also try Gazanias, tuberous Begonias, petunias - but probably not all at once!

I will try your suggestions! I'm growing Wisley Magic runner beans which are loving the sunny spot and hopefully will be good for quick coverage. Definately a good idea to try some scented plants to mask the car fumes.

Wovenbird - I wouldn't eat the beans if I were you because of the pollution, just looks at them.
