Artemisia Powys Castle - long lived?

| I just wondered if anyone knows how long lived this plant tends to be - I have a two year old specimen which is looking very sorry for itself, while a one-year old cutting from it looks a lot better. Has anyone kept a plant for several years, or is it best to treat as an annual? We did have a long hard winter here so maybe I'm just expecting too much from the poor thing! |

| No Artemisia is particularly long-lived, so I don't suppose Powys Castle is the exception. But then there is always an exception that proves the rule. If they do exceed more than three years, I find that they lose their youthful good looks, so it is always as well to have some youngsters coming along, if only for appearance's sake. It's the same for any of those Mediterranean "sub-shrubs", Lavender, Rosemary and so on — young plants look best. You can prolong the inevitable with some specimens, though, with regular clipping and / or hard pruning. |
