We dug up a large, rubbery root thing with tentacles whilst weeding the garden today. I posted some pics online, can anyonw tell me what it is?

You can see the pictures and a better description here:

It sure is weird, looks like somethng distinctly alien to me!!! I honestly don't think you will get an ID on here as the UK forum is so painfully slow as you can see from the posts/responses. Try a similar post on the GardenWeb 'Name that plant' forum, or even contact a place such as Kew as they may well be able to help you. I would be VERY interested to find out what you have found! Good luck!

Having not looked at this forum for some months I am sad to learn that it is - still - painfully slow!

I think that "root" is actually a child's rubber toy or even a dog's toy that has lain buried for a few years. How long have you owned the house - are you relatively newly moved in? Did you dig up more than one?

That explains the stretchiness and the googly eyes at the top!

Looks like even the OP has forgotten about this post!!! LOL!! Perhaps they have been attacked by the parents of 'the thing' after inadvertently having dug their baby up!!
Good suggestions GNerd, it certainly does not look plantlike to me.

PS this forum is STILL painfully slow!!

We'll have to see if we can kickstart it between the two of us, greenclaws!

yeah, good idea, I usually check in daily but its not the most interesting forum I take part in I must say. I'll make a start with a new thread.

Me too, I finally discovered a much more lively garden forum!
This thread format is pretty old-fashioned also, compared with other types of forum software.
