Privet Hedge with another plant

Hello all i am new here. I love the forum.

I was wondering if it was possible to grow a plant through a privet hedge? I mean some kind of climbing plant like a clematis, wisteria, honeysuckle etc. I need something that will produce lots of flowers, is hardy, requires minimal maintinence and not strangle the privet. Would clematis be any good for this? Thanks.

RE: Privet Hedge with another plant

It is an interestin idea but I imagine that it might be difficult to maintain the hedge, without damaging the climber. I have a traditional hedge at a constant 1.5M height and have grown several single stemed shrubs to 2.5M intermitantly through the centreline of the hedge. above 2.5M they branch out and flower. I have used philadelphus, white lilac, yellow buddleia, mimmosa and a few fruit trees. It seems to work.
