Boggy Lawn

| Our garden is next to and slightly lower that farmland, we recently noticed after a lot of rain there was a small fountain of water bubbling out of the ground close to the boundary with the field, so we dug down to investigate and found what appeared to be a pipe but it was just the shape of a pipe in the clay of the soil,we first thought it might be a rabbit burrow as there are a lot of them! water was finding its way through and bubbling up to the surface so we blocked the hole with concrete, but shortly after that in the direction that the water was previously running underground through the pipe shaped hole in the soil an extremely boggy large area has appeared in our garden which is not drying out at all and is starting to grow moss. Somebody has mentioned this might be old fashioned land drainage from the field, but even if that is what it is why were we previously just getting a small bubbling out of the grass and we now have a bog garden!! any ideas would be very much appreciated. |

As your garden is lower than the farmland the water will naturally flow your way. It does seem strange the pipe simply stops but now you`ve effectively capped it with concrete the water will back up and find another way out. I think the best thing would be to contact the farmer and get him to take a look..afterall it is his drainage system thats causing you the problem :) |
