Does lavender get replant disease?

| My lavender died over the winter and I'd like to replace it. If I put another one in the same postion will it be OK, or do they suffer from replant disease? |

| Not a problem. English Lavenders die mostly from waterlogging, French/Spanish can die from winter cold (or waterlogging!). Take cuttings each year, the plants get old and wood and are best replaced after a few years even if they don't die. Improve the drainage if you have heavy soil. |

Shrubs is right. Wet soil and cold kill lavenders and taking cuttings is good insurance. remember not to "close up" lavender cuttings. Lavenders vary in their resistance to cold and wet. Check Downderry Lavender and Norfolk Lavender for useful information. Ron |

| Thanks very much for the advice. It was a Lavendula vera, but I don't think it died from watterlogging. It was in a very dry spot in gravelly soil. It was five years old and getting a bit woody, so perhaps needed replacing anyway. |
