Planting at front of house

Hi
I've been asked to plant up a semi circular area (approx 15m long, radius 5m) at the front of a house, behind a low 2 foot wall, and would appreciate some advice. They don't want anything taller than up to 5 feet and are thinking of white, pinks and blues to make up the colours. Can anyone recommend shrubs that will complement each other with colour and contrasting foliage and offer some colour all year round? Thanks. |

| Aspect? Soil? Location? Gardening capacity of the garden owners? Warm or cool pinks and blues? Variegation ok? Treading gingerly in the unknown here: Ceanothus if sunny, Deutzia, deciduous Azalea eg delicatissima, Magnolia stellata (can be pruned back and still flower) Hebe for pink and white, dwarf or groundcover conifers - various eg Chamaecyparis, Juniper for shape, colour, texture, Phormium - if the climate allows. Go for a short cultivar, though. Camellia Snippet or Quintessence or similar. Rose Nozumi or any of the less rampant carpet roses. Dwarf flowering peach or similar. Rhododendron 'Blue Tit' or similar. Pink French lavender. Dwarf Nandina with the strong autumn colour. Clematis integrifolia or heracleifolia for sprawling. Hope that gets the ideas moving - one way or another! |
