Unidentified shrub

I have just moved home and cannot identify a shrub. It is 8 foot tall and could be a magnolia. It does not have rusty hairs underneath so it is not grandiflora. The leaves are turning brown and dropping. They are long, oval and glossy green - but not as dark as they should be. There is a little furry yellow point at the end of each branch. The gardener says it has never flowered. Leaves as long as a man's hand. Any ideas?

If you don't get an answer you could post a picture on the Name That Plant Forum. It's not a cherry laurel is it?

RE: Unidentified shrub

Could it be a loquat?
