acocha vine: do you know it?

Some years back a fellow allotment gardener gave me some seeds of a beautiful climbing vine which she called 'acocha'. It produces prolific dark green fruits which taste like cucumbers and are edible until the fruit sets its seeds. I have continued to grow it annually, both for its beautiful yellow-green vines at heights up to 8 feet (on tipis or trellises in sun), and have shared the seeds with many. I have tried unsuccessfully to find this vine under the name acocha on the WWW. Does anyone out there know it by another name? Could you let me know what it is? Would you like some of the seed to grow yourself?

Well, yes please. I don't know it, but it sounds like I should. Is it too late to sow this year?

Try googling Achocha. I've never heard of it but this was the 2nd alternative spelling I tried. Comes from many years experience interpreting reader's requests in a public library!

Pretty amazing, weird cucurbit alround - I love achocha (cyclanthera pedata). And to top it all, the seeds are black and look like dead flies - honest!
