Mysterious Sweet Pea Disappearance

Posted by Garden_Nerd UK Central (My Page) on

My two perennial sweet peas have completely failed to put in an appearance this Spring. One's a regular pink one, grows 7' high each year and has a rootstock like a 12" lump of concrete - I know this because I had to move it about 4 years ago. The other one is a more dainty coral pink one, maybe L.tingitanus?
I would have thought that both these were solid, reliable, hardy performers. Anybody got any idea why they haven't shown so far?

RE: Mysterious Sweet Pea Disappearance

I have three groups of these - one in full sun, one in partial shade and one that gets shaded by the bungalow for half the day.

I, too, thought I had lost the latter group, which, in spite of its position, is usually the star performer. It was only on Sunday that I noticed the first shoots coming through, while the others have been up and about for nearly three weeks.

I suspect the recent late frosts and cold nights havn't helped. So don't give up on yours!

Chris
