Pot bound plants

| I have some pot bound shrubs to be planted out in the garden. Should I try to tease out some of the roots to spread them, ( I am afraid of leaving 'air spaces'), OR make two or three slashes with a sharp knife, and leave them to develop new roots from the cuts, OR plant them as they are, and pray? |

| You don't say what kinds of shrubs you are dealing with, Madeline. Some resent root disturbance, others don't seem to care. But, unless there is an overriding need, I wouldn't want to transplant any mature shrub until the Autumn. Chris |
