growing oleander

Anyone got any tips on growing oleander?. I would like to know about type of compost to pot it in. And is it hardy in the south of england?
I always loved the look of this plant when in the south of france and I don't want to kill it.
Many thanks.

It isn't generally hardy outdoors in Britain, though might succeed given a south-facing wall with very good drainage. And hope not to get a hard winter!

My parents' neighbours have outdoor oleanders in Portsmouth. I have one in a pot which has survived the last two winters outside (Somerset). It has no choice as it is now too big to be carried inside.

Thank you both.
I have put it in a large pot in the full sun and it looks quite happy at the moment.

I have since discovered by googling it that Oleander is extremely poisonous and kills a lot of people in some parts of the world. I must put it somewhere away from the grandchildren and the dog!!
