Last/First Frost Dates in Europe?

Posted by KendraSchmidt none (My Page) on

I'm looking for information on "last frost dates" for Europe. I'm an Anglophone living overseas and I'd like to begin working on my garden, but I don't know where to find information for first and last frost dates fur Europe. Does anyone know if this information can be found by country? (Not in the UK and the forum for the country I'm in on Gardenweb seems either abandoned or spammed.)

Kendra, which European country are you in? Every country will differ and have info in its own language so I doubt you can find dates for 'Europe' as a whole. In your position I'd try to find out the meterorological data for exactly where you live.

I am in the UK and the concept of hard and fast first and last frost dates doesn't really exist. But you can find approximations - e.g. mine are 'mid-October' and 'early May'. They are so variable that they are not much use.

Anyhow, you can work on your garden anytime, frost or no frost. All the preparation can to be done before the last frost.

The link gives a zone map which might be useful.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I'm in France, and so far I haven't been able to find anything concrete on frost dates. I'm going to go to the gardening shop this weekend and hopefully they'll be able to offer some insight. Thanks again!

Hope you get some help. France has a range of climates and it will depend where you are located. I agree that your best bet is to talk to local gardeners. But don't be surprised if they are a bit puzzled by the idea of first and last dates. The link might be interesting although it gives earliest frosts, not latest, and deals in extremes.
