philadelphus virginalis

I planted Philadelphus virginalis last autumn as I heard the scent was really wonderful. The other philadelphus in the garden have marvellous scent so I was really looking forward to the new shrub. Result: Lovely double flowers, but no scent whatsoever. So disappointing because it looks so good, but a philadelphus without scent!! Is there a possibility it could one day have scent, or is that it?

I had one which had no scent and it never developed one! I got rid of it eventually as the main reason for having one is for the scent. I now have two others - a golden-leaved one and a variegated one. They are being very slow and haven't flowered yet.
I think you'd be best off buying one in flower and giving it the sniff test before parting with your money.

Delay in responding or what!! Thank you for your comment Garden Nerd [back in June last year]. We are now in Autumn 2010 and I am going to get rid of the Philadelphus Virginalis as it takes up a lot of precious space for little return. Thanks for your input and sorry for ridiculous delay!
