| I planted Philadelphus virginalis last autumn as I heard the scent was really wonderful. The other philadelphus in the garden have marvellous scent so I was really looking forward to the new shrub. Result: Lovely double flowers, but no scent whatsoever. So disappointing because it looks so good, but a philadelphus without scent!! Is there a possibility it could one day have scent, or is that it? |

I had one which had no scent and it never developed one! I got rid of it eventually as the main reason for having one is for the scent. I now have two others - a golden-leaved one and a variegated one. They are being very slow and haven't flowered yet. I think you'd be best off buying one in flower and giving it the sniff test before parting with your money. |
