hi, about three months ago i bought some 4ft laurels and planted them in old large whiskey barrels, about a month ago some of the leaves started tuning yellow which i was told could probably be iron deficiency, i have added iron about a fortnight ago but still no improvement and more yellow leaves are appearing. the soil is compost from bags and seems to be nice and moist when i dig my hand in. any ideas anyone? all your help is much appreciated as i would hate to see them die due to somthing simple.

RE: potted laurels leaves are turning yellow

Were these Laurels pot grown or rootballed when you purchased them?
Pot grown Laurel in general should not develope yellow leaves unless they are the oldest leaves on the plants-evergreens shed their oldest leaves on a cycle.
If they were rootballed it may well be the root ball did not match the top growth and the plant is now stressed and loosing leaf.
We purchased some rootballed laurel where I work. I reduced the top growth when I potted them up and they are growing well although those which had the least root have suffered some leaf yellowing and drop.
