As I lift my charlottes I am left with a nice weed free bed. I would like to plant rows of perennial flowers,do some out of season propogation. Do I need to put any fertiliser on the ground? Would a little bonemeal under the divided roots be a good idea?

Given that your soil after poatoes will be quite depleted I think a light application of bonemeal would be a good idea, it's slow release and doesn't seem to 'burn' plants in my experience.

I would apply bonemeal and rake it in before planting rather put it under divided roots, giving the transplant time to settle without having to cope with any unusualy high levels of nutrient.

Good luck with whatever you try.

Thankyou.
If I plant autumn tatties I put in tattie fertiliser so light bonemeal makes sense.
Is bonemeal a cjd suspect? I read that somewhere but surely they wouldnt still be selling it if that was so!
