Olive Tree

I live in the SE of England, have an Olive tree approx 1.5 metres high and about 7 years old. It is getting quite straggely, leaves are turning yellow and spotted with black spots. It is in a South facing garden in a large pot and gets regularly watered. Has never had fruit to speak of although flowers appear which change to minute fruit. I want to prune it as well to try and encourage growth and shape but am reluctant to be too severe.
Comments would be appreciated, thanks

RE: Olive Tree

Random thoughts: Don't know how long you've had it in the pot - is the drain hole still clear? Is the pot off the ground on pot feet? Do you feed it regularly with an organic fertiliser, for preference? eg worm casts or fish emulsion or seaweed at least each month over the growing season. When did you last either topdress the tree by taking off the old top two to three centimetres of potting mix and replacing it with fresh; or totally repotting with fresh mix?

You could try training as a standard, or possibly an espalier by using a framework within your pot. Protect from blustery winds.
