I have an apple tree (cox orange pippin) which for the first few years of being planted did well with lovely large apples. The past couple of years it has lost all the fruit at the first stage of the apple when they are about an inch or so in diameter. They just seem to drop off. Last year it didn't get any fruit and I thought it was because all the wild garden birds always rested on it before flying to the bird table. I just presumed that they had knocked off the apples. This year I had a good flowering with quite a lot of fruit. In the last few weeks each and everyone of the fruits have fallen off the tree.
This time I didn't think it was the birds as the birdtable is now in a different part of the garden and they don't rest on the tree so often. One thought that I have had is that the resident squirrel has knocked them off.
Could it be a problem with the tree or do you think that it could just be birds or squirrels.

No. So far I haven't done anything but do occasionally water it in very hot weather. Should I be feeding it? If so with what kind of feed/fertilizer? Alison |
