Growing runner beans from tubers

I thought I would share my experience with leaving runners in the ground and starting them a second year.
I grew four plants in the greenhouse last year and had some nice early beans which carried on cropping until the autumn, when I cut them down and just left them in the fairly dry soil. By this april - may nothing was happening, so I started watering, and up they came. They are now setting, so no early beans, but I think I should have started watering earlier. Nice healthy plants though, with several stems each. I could do with a few more bees for pollination though.

RE: Growing runner beans from tubers

I have runners coming from tubers this year too. They were left in the ground to take their chances and began growing several weeks after I had set out the first group of seed-sown plants. (I have given up on sowing in situ) They are now flowering but are still behind the seedlings. This has been my experience for the last few years. They always seem to be later - but this can be useful as they can be the last beans gathered before the frost.
