Garden Drainage advice needed

I'm installing a drainage system in my garden and I have a number of questions if anyone can help. The house is a new build and the area has a high clay content which results in the garden being waterlogged during the winter, to the point that you can't walk on the turf for days later. I placed new turf down 2 years ago but because of this problem the turf is now very patchy and looks terrible in places. I've dug down 400mm's and placed clean chippings down then drainage pipe, on top of this I have back filled with clean chippings until theres about 75mm of top soil to place on top of the chippins. Ok, now the questions : 1. Where the pipes meet at a junction do I need to join them up or can I just but them up closely. 2. Will I need a soakaway and if so what size? 3. From the photos is there enough drainage in place? 4. Does it work? Please say yes to the last question because digging those trenches on my holiday during the heatwave does not really compare to sunning myself abroad! Thanks for your help. I'm pretty new to the forum and can't see where I post photos, if it helps I can send them later.

You should at least tape the pipe joints or find a coupler.

I have an article on drainage at my website, since I installed many of them while working at university campuses and golf courses.

At my site link below, click Advice in the menu, then afterward, choose Advice page 2 from the flash buttons. When you get to Advice Page 2, find the drainage topic in the list. You may find the soil article relevant too.

There should be a topic about making dry creekbeds functional by running drainage to them. It turns the dry creekbed into a storage or drainage cistern.

Old topic, but yes, I was reading that drainage advice and explanation this morning. The tips look very current. The path to the page is a bit different now.

Below is the drainage advice page address direct. The stuff on soil care stemming from really puts things together.

Any garden drainage system must have somewhere to drain to - a ditch, creek, swale, pond, etc.

As you have clay soil, a soakaway is not likely to be sufficient as your soil cannot drain the volume away fast enough.

The website below has a lot of information on soakaways. Just click on 'SOAKAWAY' on the side nav. bar.

Clay will hold and block water so you may have more fundamental problems which a small drainage system will struggle with.
